2019 Essay Contest

The Life’s WORC Family Center for Autism, in partnership with The Claire Friedlander Family Foundation, is pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 Essay Contest!

Students in grades 9 to 12 enrolled in public or private schools in Nassau or Suffolk counties as well as Queens have competed for the $4,000 first-place prize, $3,000 second-place award or $2,000 third-place winner.

Essays addressed the question: “How can I lead my school and community to become a bully-free place for individuals with autism and developmental disabilities?” 

146 students from Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk high schools submitted essays and we have four winners.

 

 

The 2019 Winners were:

First Place

Rose Reilly, Sophomore, The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica

Second Place

Timothy McMahon, Junior, Manhasset Secondary School in Manhasset

Third Place Tie:

Megan Specht, Senior, Ward Melville High School in Setauket

Camryn Zelli, Senior, Connetquot High School in Bohemia
