Life’s WORC Joins Governor Kathy Hochul to Advocate for the I/DD Community

On May 28, Life’s WORC had the privilege of attending a special reception hosted by Governor Kathy Hochul, dedicated to celebrating and advancing the priorities of the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) community across New York State. It was a powerful gathering that brought together advocates, providers, families, and the people most directly impacted by these important issues.

Our founder, Victoria Schneps, was joined by several Life’s WORC Board Members, our executive leadership team, dedicated staff, families, and—most importantly—the people we support. The event created space not only for conversation but also for visibility, dignity, and recognition. We were especially proud that several individuals from our Supported Employment and Pre-Vocational programs had the opportunity to actively participate in the event.
These individuals shared their personal journeys, discussed their goals, and demonstrated the valuable contributions they make in their workplaces and communities every day. Their presence reminded everyone in the room of the importance of inclusive employment and the need to invest in opportunities that empower people with I/DD to live independently and with purpose.

Governor Hochul’s commitment to supporting the I/DD community was evident throughout the event, and we are grateful for her administration’s continued partnership in helping shape policies that prioritize inclusion, access, and equity.
At Life’s WORC, we believe that every person—regardless of ability—deserves the opportunity to thrive. We remain steadfast in our mission to support and advocate for the rights, talents, and dreams of the people we serve. This reception was not just a moment of recognition—it was a call to action, and we are proud to be part of the movement driving progress forward.
