Working On a Better You

Specially trained instructors lead classes and promote the benefits of sports for people on the autism spectrum. The Family Center for Autism features a fully equipped gymnasium, a sensory gym and spaces for yoga and meditation.

Tiny Tots (2-5 years old)

Sensory Gym Action Time

Have fun in our state-of-the-art sensory gym as you climb, jump, slide and bounce with friends. This free-flowing class builds gross motor skills (crawling, jumping, balancing) while also strengthening social skills (turn-taking, waiting, helping) in a gently structured setting and is a great introduction to sports for toddlers with autism. This hour of movement, action, and smiles is sure to be a hit!

Zumba 

This new class features kid-friendly Zumba routines that break down the steps and gives our youngest friends a chance to socialize and enjoy their favorite music. This high-energy dance and movement class takes a typical Zumba approach but adds games and activities to keep everyone smiling and having fun! 

Tiny Tots Time

Come sing, dance, move, and have fun at the Family Center! Participants will create, imagine, pretend, and learn all while having a great time. This class fosters socialization and age-appropriate skills, such as turn-taking and sharing. Parents are welcome to stay in the class if they wish.

Children (6-11 years old)

Karate

Learn self-defense, meditation, balance, and combat within a safe and supervised environment. Taught by a martial arts instructor, this class also strengthens the fine and gross motor skills associated with kicking, punching, jumping and balancing while enhancing socialization techniques.

Yoga

Yoga is a fun and easy form of exercise that helps you to feel happy, calm and healthy! Our Children’s Yoga class utilizes songs and visuals to help kids learn the poses and develop the ability to be relaxed and calm.

Sensory Gym Action Time

Sensory Gym Social Skills

Join us in the FCA sensory gym to climb, slide, hang, and problem-solve with a group of like-minded friends. The participants work together while utilizing everything the gym has to offer to complete tasks and participate in games that build problem-solving abilities, teamwork and communication skills.  This class challenges the participants both mentally and physically, all while having a great time.

Tweens & Teens (12-20 years old)

Zumba

Zumba is a fun and exciting way to increase aerobic activity while moving and grooving to popular music. Easy-to-follow moves and great music make this class a popular hit.

Yoga

Yoga is a fun and easy form of exercise that helps you to feel happy, calm and healthy! Practice relaxation techniques, postures, breath, balance, flexibility and deep stretches.  The Level 2 session requires participants to be able to do basic yoga poses independently.

Karate

Sport

This class focuses on the fundamentals of basketball, soccer, and football. Engage in fun games and drills while building skills and strengthening physical fitness. Participants interact in fun and exciting games that foster a basic understanding of the skills for each sport.

Adults (21 years old & up)

Get some exercise while moving to some of the hottest tunes out there! Shake, shimmy, and slide your way to a fit lifestyle.

Multi-Sports

This class focuses on the fundamentals of basketball and football.  Engage in fun games and drills while building skills and strengthening physical fitness.  The intermediate class requires basic knowledge of passing, dribbling, and shooting a basketball as well as passing and catching a football. Sports are an excellent tool for those with autism to further develop physical and mental skills.
